Famedly builds secure, open communication solutions for healthcare. Based on the Matrix protocol, we connect hospitals, medical practices, care providers and health insurers, including as a provider of the German TI-Messenger.

Your role:

As Technical Product Owner Matrix (m/w/d), you own the “how” and “when” for our Matrix homeserver team. You combine user needs and specifications into a clear, prioritized backlog and make sure the team delivers reliably, release after release.

Your responsibilities:

  • Backlog: own and prioritize the team backlog, balancing new initiatives with operational and maintenance work, and weighing features, bugs and technical debt together with the team.

  • Requirements engineering: structure user stories and needs into epics and tasks with clear requirements while balancing the solutions against the specifications of the Matrix protocol and the TI-Messenger.

  • Delivery: steer delivery using agile methods; refine tasks with the team, validate implementations and ensure urgency is balanced against a focused backlog.

  • Releases: own release planning and go-live readiness within our two-week release train.

  • Stakeholders: align requests from sales, customers and engineering, coordinate dependencies with the other product teams, infrastructure and support, communicate decisions and trade-offs early, and escalate to PM or Head of Product where needed. Give interested parties insights into plans and goals while keeping expectations within reasonable bounds.

  • Engineering collaboration: work closely with engineers at eye level, understand technical trade-offs on the Matrix homeserver, write clear and testable acceptance criteria, and protect the team's focus.

  • AI: use AI as a natural part of your work, for example for spec analysis, writing stories and test cases.

What you should bring:

  • Proven experience as a Product Owner for a technical product, such as backend services, protocols or APIs

  • Solid understanding of Matrix or comparable federated communication systems, homeservers, end-to-end encryption and APIs

  • Experience working with specifications and in a regulated environment

  • Hands-on experience with Jira and agile methods

  • Clear communication with engineers and non-technical stakeholders

  • Fluent English and German language skills

✨ Nice to have:

  • Knowledge of the German telematics infrastructure (TI) or gematik specifications
